I Am Wondering What Does A Extensive Background Check Consist Of?

I interviewed with a prospective employer today and was told they do a extensive background check. I have (and hate to admit) had a DUI many years ago. I did not lie about it on the application because it was a first offense misdemeanor. It is the only trouble I have ever been in. Never before and not after. Do you think that will hurt my chance for employment. It is in the Manufacturing industry.

An extensive background check for employment depends on the company’s policy and procedures as to how they define “extensive.”
Typically, employers outsource the background check to an agency like Choice Point. Background checks for standard positions are usually 7 years…more if the position is for a senior leadership position in the company. They’ll ask for your social security number on the application and on the release form to conduct the background check.
Armed with that information, including your full name, driver’s license number, date of birth, etc., employers check your education, employment, criminal, addresses and possibly credit for the last 7 years.
    Good luck!

ouch. THat DUI might hurt your chances of them extending an offer. well, at least you were honest. Plus, a career in the manufacturing industry has strict OSHA standards they have to follow, so a DUI might be a strike against you. sorry!
oh yeah, “extensive” means criminal history, work history, credit check, SSNs

If it is between you and another person with the same amount of experience, but the other person does not have a DUI, it’s possible that it could hurt your chances. Depends on how long ago, and what others say about you.
I once ran a daycare, and had someone from the FBI show up to question me about the parent of one of the children enrolled in my daycare. I thought that was a VERY extensive background check.

    Credit History.Felonys and Work History.
You should get the job as long as you did not lie on the application, and the drug test is fine.

An extension background check pulls up your record, along with related records. I’ve had 5 done on me because I work in healthcare.
The record shows where you currently live, where you HAVE lived, the current dollar value of the place you live (I know, rather unnecessary), if you are married, single, divorced, whether or not there were sex offenders close by (that was a little scary for me to find out), the average income level of the neighborhood/city you live in, the average home price of the city/neighborhood you live in, along with your criminal background, such as convictions, time served, etc.
With your criminal background, offenses such as traffic violations and driving violations tend to be treated differently than property crimes and so forth. If it happened at least 5 years ago or more, and it was a misdemeanor, you should be fine. Don’t go for anything that involves driving, and you’ll still be game for the job market.
What I would do in the future is get it expunged. Getting a record expunged basically “seals it”, where it never happened and the only people who can access it or the FBI.

They check your driving history, some even do credit checks so they can see your payment history. Did they finger print you? Some do this also. (banking and such) If they ask you about it just say that it was so long ago you didn’t think it was an issue.(dui)
